Scott, 1935

Who wrote it: Anthology of Children's Literature was compiled by Edna Johnson of Indiana University and Carrie E. Scott, head of the children's department of the Indianapolis Public Library, and published by Houghton Mifflin at the Riverside Press in 1935.

What it's about: This big collection gathers fairy tales, literary fairy tales, fiction, biography, and more for teachers, librarians, and parents, from John Ruskin's The King of the Golden River to young Theodore Roosevelt's travel diary. It is a snapshot of what American children were reading in the 1930s.

Why I like it: I love the range in this book, and the library card pocket with due dates from 1939 to 1982 tells its own story about how long it was loved.

Condition: Cloth hardcover with paper labels, a former library book with spine label, card pocket, and due date slip. Edge wear and some toning to the endpapers.
