**Who wrote it**
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was written by Betty Smith, first published in 1943, and has remained in print without interruption since. This copy is the International Collectors Library edition, with drawings by Richard Bergere. Copyright 1947.
**What it's about**
The story of Francie Nolan, growing up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the early twentieth century, in a family that is poor but not defeated. It is one of the great American coming-of-age novels, full of warmth and precision about the texture of working-class immigrant life.
**Why I like it**
The International Collectors Library editions are so beautifully made. This one looks exactly right on a classics shelf, with its ornate gold-embossed binding.
**Condition**
Dark navy cloth hardcover with ornate gold embossed decorative border and design on the cover; no dust jacket. Binding tight and clean. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
