Addams and Evil, Chas Addams, 1947

Who wrote it: Addams and Evil is a collection of cartoons by Chas Addams, the New Yorker cartoonist who later created The Addams Family, with an introduction by Wolcott Gibbs. It was published by Simon and Schuster in 1947.

What it's about: This early collection gathers Addams's macabre, deadpan humor from his New Yorker years, populated by the ghoulish, droll characters that would eventually become the Addams Family. It is a great pickup for anyone who loves gallows humor drawn with an elegant pen.

Special features: Tucked inside is a bonus pamphlet from "The Complete Charles Addams" exhibit at the New York Public Library, February 16 to May 7, 1994, a nice bit of provenance for a collector.

Condition: Hardcover with dust jacket; jacket heavily worn with tears and chip loss at the top corner and edges. Spine and copyright page are otherwise legible and intact. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
