The American Practical Cookery-Book was published by G.G. Evans of Philadelphia in 1860, and is attributed on the title page to "A Practical Housekeeper." The book covers a broad range of American culinary practice, with chapters on soups, broths, bread, cake, puddings, and more. It is illustrated with engravings, including a frontispiece depicting a domestic kitchen scene.

The tan/brown embossed cloth boards show extensive wear. The spine cloth is fraying and separating at both the head and foot. The front paste-down and flyleaf endpapers exhibit extremely heavy foxing and large brown water stains covering most of both pages. The title page similarly shows heavy water staining. Interior text pages are cleaner but there are water stains and other soiling throughout. A well-used cookbook!
