Antique French Half Leather Book Set in Brown and Oxblood with Marbled Boards

A handsome set of four antique French books in half-leather bindings, in rich shades of chocolate brown, oxblood, and deep plum, with raised spine bands, gilt lettering, and delicate gilt floral ornaments. The covers are finished in beautiful marbled papers in tortoiseshell amber, black and cream, and swirled caramel and green. Together they bring a warm, collected, old-library feel to a study, bookshelf, or French country interior.

Dating from 1877 to 1922, the set brings together some notable names in French literature: Pierre Loti of the Académie Française, the Goncourt brothers (whose name lives on in France's most prestigious literary prize), and the Symbolist poet Jean Moréas. It's rounded out by a Jesuit scholar's guide to French, Latin, and Greek authors written for students preparing for the baccalauréat exam.

Together they measure approximately 7.5 x 4.5 inches.
