Antique French Leather Book Bundle of Slim Brown Books 1821-1900s, Victor Hugo Hernani, Walter Scott

A handsome set of eight slim antique books in warm shades of chestnut, chocolate, cognac, and caramel brown, with half-leather spines, faded gilt bands, and beautiful marbled boards in blue, black, and gold. Their slender profile gives the stack a refined, airy look on the shelf, and they're easy to tuck into a bookcase, layer on a desk, or bundle with twine for a French country vignette.

Inside is a wonderful mix of 19th-century French literature and poetry, including Victor Hugo's Hernani, a French translation of Walter Scott's Old Mortality, Édouard Pailleron's comedy La Souris, and an 1821 edition of the elegies of C. L. Mollevaut printed by Didot. A German volume of religious verse from 1841 and La Muse Normande, poems written in the Norman dialect, add a little extra intrigue.

The tallest book measures 9.5 inches, and the set takes up approximately 5 inches of shelf space.

The leather spines show rubbing, scuffing, and some cracking, and the marbled boards have edge wear.
