Antique French Red Leather Book Set from 1800s

A rich set of four antique French books in deep crimson, cherry, and wine-red leather, with gilt-tooled spines featuring raised bands, ornate gilt panels, and elegant scrolling ornaments. The covers add lovely variety, from a gilt-ruled full leather binding and a blind-stamped pebbled cover to marbled boards in swirling red and cream and speckled black and plum. It's a warm, romantic palette for a library, a reading nook, or a holiday shelf display.

Dating from 1859 to 1908, the set includes Eugène Fromentin's classic novel Dominique, Prévost-Paradol's essays on the great French moralists, and the poetry of Charles-Hubert Millevoye with an introduction by the celebrated critic Sainte-Beuve. A special highlight is Émile Garet's 1859 biographical study of Mourot, printed in Pau and inscribed on the title page by the author: "Hommage de l'auteur, Em. Garet."

**Condition**
The Millevoye spine is noticeably cracked and worn with chipping at the head and foot, and there is scattered foxing, an old purple bookseller's stamp on the Millevoye title page, and old handwritten notes on the Mourot and Moralistes title pages.
