A remarkable collection of thirty-two antique pocket-size French books in honey and caramel leather spines with gilt-tooled bands, finished with mottled marbled boards in shades of brown, cream, and berry red. Lined up on a shelf, the warm, uniform spines make a stunning statement for a library, a study, or a French country or old-world interior.
These volumes come from the Répertoire du Théâtre Français, a multi-volume collection of the great plays of the French stage, printed in Paris in the 1820s by Jules Didot aîné, printer to the King. This partial set includes works by Molière, Racine, Pierre Corneille, Voltaire, Regnard, Beaumarchais, and Collin d'Harleville, along with many other dramatists. At about 5.5 inches tall, they're charmingly small and perfect for tucking into bookcases, vignettes, or a collector's shelf.
Together they measure approximately 5.5 x 27 inches.
