Compiled and introduced by O. Neverov and published by Aurora Art Publishers in Leningrad in 1976, this bilingual Russian and English reference volume documents the antique intaglio collection held at the State Hermitage Museum, presenting carved gemstones and hardstone seals from antiquity through the eighteenth century.
Intaglios, engraved with portraits, mythological subjects, and decorative motifs for use as personal seals and later as collected objects, occupy a specialized corner of the antiquarian world.
Full-page color and black-and-white plate illustrations reproduce each gem at close range, allowing detailed study of the carving and iconography.
Black cloth hardcover with gilt borders and a large oval intaglio illustration on the front board; no dust jacket present; boards clean and square. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
