Antique Leather-Bound Voltaire Books in French, 1824, Gold Black and Brown

A gorgeous run of nine antique volumes from the complete works of Voltaire, bound in warm tan leather spines with raised bands, rich gold tooling, and black title labels, paired with swirled marbled boards in slate, ink blue, and gold. The repeating gilt patterns make a striking, cohesive row on a library shelf, mantel, or study, and they bring instant old-world character to a French country, traditional, or academic interior.

These are from the Oeuvres Complètes de Voltaire, published in Paris by P. Dupont in 1824 and printed entirely in French. The volumes in this set cover Voltaire's Philosophical Dictionary, his novels and tales, his satirical pieces, his literary essays, and his commentaries on Corneille, making them as interesting to read as they are beautiful to display. They're numbered volumes 40 through 49 of the larger set (volume 46 is not included).

**Condition**
At nearly 200 years old, the leather spines show rubbing, chipping at the spine ends, and scuffing, and the marbled boards and corners are rubbed and worn.
