Antique Oversized Red Ornate French Book Set, Joan of Arc Cover, Illustrated, 4 Volumes

A spectacular set of four large antique French books in rich coral red with black and gold decoration, each with a different show-stopping cover: an elaborate gilt and black geometric design, Art Nouveau gold floral sprays, a full-color Joan of Arc in armor holding her banner, and holly sprigs and daisies around a silver medallion. They're beautiful displayed face-out on a mantel, easel, or coffee table, and the patterned spines look just as lovely on a shelf.

These are classic French prize-style books from the late 1800s and early 1900s, published in Paris and Limoges and filled with full-page engravings. The set includes a swallow's travels across France, stories of Lorraine, a boys' adventure tale, and a gallery of famous Frenchwomen from Sainte Geneviève to Joan of Arc. The holly-covered Récits d'une Lorraine is especially sweet for Christmas decorating.

Together they measure approximately 12 x 6 inches.

**Condition**
The covers show rubbing and edge wear, with worn spine ends and corners and scattered foxing to the pages. Femmes Illustres has a split in the text block near the front, so the binding is loose there.
