The Drums of Morning is a novel by Philip Van Doren Stern, published by The World Publishing Company in this First Reprint Edition of 1946. A sweeping historical novel set during the American Civil War, it follows characters caught between the forces of reaction and progress in a nation at war with itself.

Stern is perhaps best known today as the author of The Greatest Gift, the short story that became It's a Wonderful Life, but he was equally a serious Civil War historian who brought scholarship and passion to his fiction.

Dark cloth hardcover with original colorful pictorial dust jacket depicting an antebellum Southern scene; jacket shows edge wear and some soiling. Interior sound with some age toning to pages. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
