Ernie Pyle in England by Ernie Pyle, published by Robert M. McBride & Company, New York, 1941. First edition.
An account of wartime England during the Blitz, drawn from Pyle's Scripps-Howard newspaper dispatches. One of the great American war correspondents at the height of his powers, writing directly and humanely about ordinary British people under extraordinary circumstances.
Signed by the author with a personal inscription on the front paste-down: "For Mrs. E.H. Stoore from Ernie Pyle."
Condition: Gray cloth hardcover with red lettering. Dust jacket present but heavily worn with tears, losses, and soiling. Boards show soiling and white residue staining at lower front board and spine base. Front paste-down and endpaper have substantial foxing and moisture staining. Interior age-toned throughout; binding firm. A well-worn but complete copy made exceptional by the author's signature and personal inscription.
