Esquire Party Book, Scotty and Ronnie Welch, 1965

Who wrote it: Esquire Party Book: For Entertaining Around the Clock, compiled by the editors of Esquire magazine with Scotty and Ronnie Welch, designed and illustrated by Seymour Chwast, published by Esquire, Inc. in association with Harper & Row in 1965, a mid-century entertaining and party planning guide.

What it's about: The book walks hosts through menus, recipes, cocktails, games, and etiquette for gatherings of every kind, from breakfast to midnight suppers, pitched at the era's aspiring young host. It captures the confident, cocktail hour optimism of mid-1960s entertaining, when a party book doubled as a small guide to adulthood.

Special features: Seymour Chwast, a founder of Push Pin Studios and one of the most influential graphic designers of the twentieth century, illustrated and designed the entire book, and his bright, angular drawings run throughout in bold color. The black cloth boards carry his silver stamped design of a man toasting from an oversized martini glass.

Condition: Black cloth hardcover with a silver stamped illustration on the front board, dust jacket present. The dust jacket shows soiling and spotting with some edge wear, and the front free endpaper carries a period ink inscription. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
