A comprehensive moral philosophy and character education textbook covering twenty-three chapters on ethical principles including conscience, purpose, goodness, sin, sympathy, courage, truth, self-government, and the use of time. Includes a substantial Teachers' Key with methods of instruction for each chapter. 

Cabot was a prominent Boston educator and reformer, and this work was widely used in American schools and colleges in the early twentieth century.

Condition: Maroon cloth hardcover with gilt spine lettering; no dust jacket. Boards show significant soiling, spotting, and surface wear with some cloth lifting. Front paste-down carries a handwritten owner name "Virgil Clayton" with a number notation, and an ink stamp for "Jaywalker Lodge." Interior pages show age toning; binding is firm. A well-used reading copy.
