Evolution of Expression, Vol. III, Charles Wesley Emerson, 1917, Twenty-Third Edition

Who wrote it: Evolution of Expression, Volume III is by Charles Wesley Emerson, founder of Emerson College of Oratory, copyright 1905, this twenty-third edition published by the college in Boston in 1917.

What it's about: Selections from Dickens, Tennyson, Browning, George Eliot, Shakespeare, Carlyle, and Sidney Lanier, arranged to train the voice and imagination of oratory students. A lovely relic of the elocution era, when reading aloud was a serious art.

Special features: Engraved frontispiece portrait of Wendell Phillips and the college seal on the title page.

Condition: Rust red cloth hardcover with spotting to the front board, a small torn tab and rust marks at the top of the title page and the pages that follow, and pencil notes on the contents page. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.

Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
