Who wrote it: Gamebirds: A Guide to North American Species and Their Habits by Alexander Sprunt IV and Herbert S. Zim, illustrated by James Gordon Irving, published by Golden Press in 1961 as a Golden Nature Guide.

What it's about: A full color guide to North America's ducks, geese, grouse, and other game birds, with range maps and notes on habits and habitat. It pairs careful natural history with Irving's handsome bird paintings.

Why I like it: I love Golden Guides and find them some of the most fun books to explore, collect, and put to use.
