Gleanings in Buddha-Fields: Studies of Hand and Soul in the Far East
By Lafcadio Hearn
Houghton, Mifflin and Company, Boston and New York
Copyright 1897

Gleanings in Buddha-Fields is an early and influential work by Lafcadio Hearn exploring Japanese religion, art, folklore, and daily life through essays and observations drawn from his years in Japan.

First published in 1897, the book reflects Western fascination with Buddhism and Eastern philosophy at the turn of the 20th century. Published by Houghton Mifflin at the Riverside Press, Cambridge.

Condition: Hardcover with no dust jacket. Blue cloth boards show noticeable wear, rubbing, and fading, with fraying at the spine ends and corners and wear to the gilt lettering and decoration. The spine is intact but softened. Interior pages are age-toned with scattered spotting, most noticeable on the endpapers. The binding remains intact.
