Harper’s Literary Museum: Early American Writings is a 1927 first edition published by Harper & Brothers and compiled by Ola Elizabeth Winslow, with design by George Boas.

This volume is the first in a planned series and gathers a wide-ranging selection of early American texts, including colonial documents, sermons, letters, poetry, almanac excerpts, travel accounts, women’s writings, children’s pieces, and early American advertisements.

Selections include works by John Smith, William Bradford, Cotton Mather, Benjamin Franklin, Nathaniel Ames, Susanna Rowson, and others, offering a broad literary and historical survey from the seventeenth through early nineteenth centuries.

Condition:
Hardcover, first edition (1927). Tan boards with red cloth spine show general age toning, surface wear, and light scuffing; spine label is intact with mild edge wear. Interior pages show light foxing and age toning. A small tear is present on the lower edge of one preliminary blank page.
