Who wrote it: Heidi is Johanna Spyri's beloved Swiss children's classic, first published in 1880, about a young girl living with her grandfather in the Alps. This edition is part of the Windermere Series published by Rand McNally, translated by Philip Schuyler Allen and illustrated by Maginel Wright Enright, this copy being the second printing dated September 1, 1955.

What it's about: Heidi's love of the mountains, and the way she wins over everyone she meets, has made this story a lasting favorite for generations of young readers. It's a lovely find for anyone collecting classic children's literature or Windermere Series editions.

Special features: Windermere editions like this one were built to be read again and again, and this copy still has that solid, well loved feel.
