Hugh Wynne, Free Quaker is a historical novel by Dr. S. Weir Mitchell, one of the leading American authors and physicians of his era, originally published by The Century Co. of New York in 1896.
Set against the backdrop of the American Revolutionary War, the novel follows Hugh Wynne, a young Philadelphia Quaker whose conscience and courage lead him to break from his pacifist faith and fight for American independence.
The work was enormously popular in its day, praised for its vivid historical detail, period authenticity, and dramatic narrative.
This set comprises two volumes.
Condition: Both volumes are bound in the original gray cloth boards. The spine of each volume shows fraying at the top and bottom ends. Page edges are gilt. Interior pages are yellowed with age but remain legible throughout. Covers show scattered soiling and spotting.
