This two-volume set is the New Revised Edition, with a latest copyright of 1974.

What it's about: This set surveys human history from ancient civilizations through the modern era, opening with Alexander Pope's line, the proper study of mankind is man, and it makes a sweeping, richly illustrated overview for a home history library.

Special features: Both volumes are bound in green cloth with elaborate gilt stamped cover designs depicting scenes from history, and the text is illustrated throughout with full color reproductions of classical paintings alongside black and white photographs and drawings.
