Who wrote it: The Isle of the Lake is an adventure novel for boys by Willard Goss, published by David C. Cook Publishing Company in 1903. It features a handsome red cloth cover with marbled paper boards.

What it's about: An early 20th-century adventure story about two boys encountering thieves while on a camping trip.

Special features: The marbled paper boards and period illustrations give this book a distinctive, handsome appearance that sets it apart from typical books of its era.

Why I like it: The front endpaper carries a handwritten inscription of Theodore Roosevelt's well-known address 'To the Boys of America,' copied out in a lovely period hand! I also love this book because it is so unique in its publishing style. I can just imagine a boy from the early 1900s curled up with this adventure story.

Condition: Red cloth hardcover with marbled paper boards; no dust jacket. Binding shows corner wear consistent with age, and pages have the tanning typical of books from this period. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.

Thanks so much for visiting, ❤️ Jess
