Le Livre de Musique, Claude Augé — French Canadian Music Method

Who wrote it: Le Livre de Musique ("The Book of Music") is a French-language music instruction manual by Claude Augé, the French lexicographer best known as general editor of the Larousse dictionaries. This is the Canadian edition, published in Montréal by Librairie Beauchemin, with a title-page vignette credited to André Gill; no printing date appears.

What it's about: The book is a complete solfège method for young students, moving from musical notation and theory through hundreds of graded exercises, duets, canons, marches, and songs, and closing with sixteen Canadian national songs added specifically for this edition.

Special features: The cover advertises 236 engraved illustrations, and the book delivers, with decorative chapter headers, composer portraits, and full printed sheet music for pieces like "Le Postillon" and "Barcarolle." The back cover carries a full sample page advertising the Larousse Dictionnaire complet de la langue française, Édition spéciale pour le Canada, a direct nod to Augé's day job as its editor.
