Who wrote it: This matched pair from the "Historic Americans, Builders of the Nation" series pairs The Life of George Washington, by Eugene Parsons, with The Life of Thomas Jefferson, by Edward S. Ellis, both with a supplementary essay by G. Mercer Adam. Published in Chicago by Laird & Lee, the volumes carry copyright dates of 1913 and match each other in size, cloth, and cover design.

What it's about: Each book is a compact biography of its president, covering the sweep of a public life from youth through the presidency, with the Jefferson volume adding a separate account of the Louisiana Purchase.

Condition: Red cloth hardcovers with black and gilt pictorial covers, no dust jackets. Both spines show wear and fraying at the head and tail, with some staining and mottling to the cloth, and the George Washington volume has a small closed tear at the top of its spine.
