Who wrote it: The Locomotive-God is William Ellery Leonard's 1927 autobiography, published by The Century Company, in which the poet and scholar recounts his lifelong struggle with agoraphobia. This first edition is bound in tan cloth boards.

What it's about: Leonard traces his crippling fear of open spaces and travel back to a childhood trauma, writing about anxiety long before such language was common. It stands as one of the earliest and most personal psychological memoirs published in America.

Condition: Tan cloth hardcover, no dust jacket. The spine paper label is heavily worn with some loss of text clarity, and the cloth shows light fraying at the spine ends. The text block and interior are otherwise clean. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
