Loyal Opposition, Wendell L. Willkie, 1940
Who wrote it: Loyal Opposition is Wendell L. Willkie's Armistice Day speech of 1940, arranged in cadenced form by Edwin Sauter, copyright 1940.
What it's about: Delivered days after his loss to Franklin Roosevelt, the speech asks Americans on both sides to remember what a free election means while democracy was failing elsewhere. It is a small and moving piece of political history.
Special features: The cover emblem was designed by sculptor Malvina Hoffman for the Women Workers for Willkie campaign, and the text is printed with red rules on textured paper.
Condition: Blue paper boards with cloth spine and mounted emblem label; light wear and a small mark at the top edge, offset browning on the endpapers, and a witty ink inscription on the front endpaper. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
