Medical Missions: The Two-Fold Task, Walter R. Lambuth, 1920

Medical Missions: The Two-Fold Task is written by Walter R. Lambuth, M.D., F.R.G.S., a physician and Methodist Episcopal missionary who spent fourteen years in China and Japan and eighteen years as Missionary Secretary. Published in New York by the Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions in 1920, it makes the case for integrating medicine and Christian ministry as a single, unified calling.

Lambuth argues that the work of healing and the work of faith cannot be separated, and his authority comes from having spent decades living that argument in the field. It is a compelling and earnest document of early twentieth-century missionary medicine, with a moral clarity that makes it feel urgent even now.
