Remembrance of Things Past, Marcel Proust, 2-Volume Vintage Book Set, 1934

Who wrote it: Remembrance of Things Past is Marcel Proust's monumental cycle, published here in two volumes by Random House, New York.

Volume One, containing Swann's Way, Within a Budding Grove, and The Guermantes Way, is translated by C.K. Scott Moncrieff and opens with an introduction by Joseph Wood Krutch. 

Volume Two, containing Cities of the Plain, The Captive, The Sweet Cheat Gone, and The Past Recaptured, is translated by Scott Moncrieff, with The Past Recaptured rendered by Frederick A. Blossom.

What it's about: The complete À la Recherche du Temps Perdu in two substantial volumes: all seven of Proust's novels following a narrator's lifelong reckoning with memory, time, love, and art in the salons and drawing rooms of turn-of-the-century France. It is one of the longest novels ever written and one of the most rewarding, and this edition makes it possible to own the whole work in a form that actually fits on a shelf.

Why I like it: I love finding this set from the late 1930s - it's handsome, a good size, and approachable. 

Condition: Two tan-cloth hardcovers in a teal-gray binding; no dust jackets. Spines show tanning and some foxing consistent with age, plus some staining. Interior pages are tanned but clean and legible.  Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
