Richard Halliburton's Book of Marvels Set of 2

These two volumes, Book of Marvels: The Occident (1937) and Second Book of Marvels: The Orient (1938), were Halliburton's gift to young readers. Written in his signature voice, The Occident takes readers through the wonders of the Western world: Niagara Falls, the Panama Canal, the ruins of Pompeii, the monasteries of the Alps. The Orient crosses into the East: the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, the Dead Sea, Babylon, and the ancient temples of Asia. Each chapter reads less like a textbook and more like a letter from someone who just got back from somewhere extraordinary.

Originally School Editions published for classroom use, these copies bear the marks of that life, including library stamps, date-due slips, and library catalog cards still tucked inside.
