Robert E. Lee by David McDowell is a biographical account written for young readers that traces the life of the Confederate general from his childhood in Virginia through his military career and historical legacy.
Published in 1953 by Random House, the book presents Lee’s life in a narrative format, supported by illustrations by William Hutchinson, and reflects mid-20th-century approaches to teaching American history and biography in schools.
