Shabby Old Dark Brown Leather French Antique Book Set

A moody, well-loved set of five French books in half-leather bindings, in deep chocolate, chestnut, and nearly black espresso brown, with raised spine bands, gilt rules, and gilt fleuron ornaments. Open them up and the marbled boards add a beautiful surprise of peacock blue, teal, and seafoam green. Their rubbed, shabby leather gives them a relaxed, lived-in character that's perfect for a cozy library, a moody study, or layered shelf styling.

The set includes both volumes of Choderlos de Laclos's scandalous classic Les Liaisons Dangereuses in the 1943 Les Belles Lettres scholarly edition, two volumes of Romain Rolland's Nobel Prize-era novel cycle Jean-Christophe, and Dr. Cabanès's illustrated history of private life and customs of the past, with 89 engravings.

These books are shabbier than most, with cracking and splitting along the spines, heavy rubbing and scuffing to the leather, and chipped spine ends, especially on the Liaisons Dangereuses volumes.
