The Chief American Poets, edited by Curtis Hidden Page, 1905
Who wrote it: The Chief American Poets is an anthology of selected poems by Bryant, Poe, Emerson, Longfellow, Whittier, Holmes, Lowell, Whitman, and Lanier, edited with notes and biographical sketches by Curtis Hidden Page and published by Houghton Mifflin in 1905.
What it's about: The collection gathers the best known verse of nine major nineteenth century American poets into one volume, with short biographies and reference notes that make it as much a classroom text as a reading copy.
Special features: A frontispiece of portrait engravings of all nine poets faces the title page.
Condition: Two tone brown and gray cloth hardcover with rubbed, frayed spine ends. Several previous owners left pencil inscriptions and notes on the front free endpaper. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
