The City Gardener by Philip Truex is a practical guide to gardening in urban environments, written for people working with rooftops, terraces, balconies, courtyards, and small backyards.
Drawing on Truex’s experience as the owner of The City Gardener shop in Manhattan, the book covers soil preparation, containers, planting and pruning, vines and groundcovers, bulbs, vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals, along with seasonal planning for city spaces.
It is illustrated with photographs and with drawings and plans by G. Kelley Fitch.
This is a first edition with a copyright date of 1963, published by Alfred A. Knopf. The dust jacket is present and is a book club edition, showing notable wear including edge tears, creasing, chipping, and areas of loss along the folds and edges. The teal cloth boards are clean and bright with minor shelf wear. The binding is sound, and the interior pages are clean with light age-related toning.
