The Koran, Translated by George Sale, A. L. Burt Home Library, Undated

Who wrote it: The Koran, commonly called the Alcoran of Mohammed, was translated from the Arabic by George Sale, with explanatory notes selected by Frederic Mynon Cooper and a prefixed Life of Mohammed, published undated by A. L. Burt of New York in its Home Library series.

What it's about: Sale's translation, first published in 1734, was the standard English Koran for nearly two centuries, and Thomas Jefferson owned a copy. Burt's inexpensive Home Library editions put it on ordinary American bookshelves around the turn of the twentieth century.

Condition: Maroon ribbed cloth hardcover with gilt spine lettering; spine ends frayed, small spots on the front board, front inner hinge split, previous owner names on the front pastedown, pages toned. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.

Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
