Who wrote it: The Sand Pebbles is Richard McKenna's 1962 novel, winner of the 1963 Harper Prize, published by Harper & Row.
What it's about: Set aboard a U.S. Navy gunboat on the Yangtze River in the 1920s, it follows an engineer caught between military duty and the political turmoil of a changing China. It was later adapted into the well-known 1966 film starring Steve McQueen.
Condition: Hardcover with dust jacket, jacket shows moderate wear with creasing and chips at the spine ends, plus a Book of the Month Club promotional card taped to the front flap. The front pastedown carries a previous owner's signature. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
