The Science of Life, H. G. Wells, Julian S. Huxley, and G. P. Wells, 1931, Volume One, First Edition, Two Volumes in One
Written by H. G. Wells, Julian S. Huxley, and G. P. Wells, and published by Doubleday, Doran & Company of Garden City, New York in 1931. This first edition presents a comprehensive survey of biological science from its foundations to its frontiers.
Originally issued in serial parts beginning in 1929, The Science of Life was Wells's attempt to do for biology what his Outline of History had done for the human past: to place the whole of living science before an educated general reader. Huxley's scientific authority gave the project its rigor, and the collaboration produced one of the most ambitious works of popular science writing of its era.
Illustrated throughout with black and white scientific drawings and diagrams covering anatomy, zoology, botany, and natural history; decorative endpapers printed in dark red with biological imagery.
Dark navy blue cloth hardcover with gilt spine lettering and embossed medallions and front board design; dust jacket present with chips and tears at spine head. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
