The Skip Rope Book, Francelia Butler, Illustrated by Gail E. Haley, 1963
Who wrote it: The Skip Rope Book was collected by Francelia Butler, illustrated by Gail E. Haley, with an introduction by Phyllis McGinley, published by The Dial Press, copyright 1963.
What it's about: A collection of the rhymes children chanted while jumping rope, gathered by a folklorist who took playground verse seriously. Some are timeless, and some, like the rhymes about Dagwood and Blondie, are little time capsules of the comic strip and radio era.
Special features: Gail E. Haley, later a Caldecott Medal winner, illustrated it in two colors, with illustrated endpapers.
Condition: Pictorial hardcover, no dust jacket; boards soiled and toned with rubbed edges and worn spine ends, and a previous owner's bookplate on the front endpaper. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.
Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
