The book covers the tomato from seed to sale, including planting methods, soil management, field culture, disease and pest control, varieties, harvesting, and marketing returns.

Illustrated with black-and-white photographs throughout; the frontispiece is a portrait of Frederick J. Pritchard, the Cornell plant breeder credited with developing disease-resistant tomato varieties of improved type.
