Walk With the Devil by Elliott Arnold is a 1950 first edition published by Alfred A. Knopf, part of their Borzoi line. Arnold was known for Blood Brother and other mid-century novels and wrote a tense, character-driven stories centered on moral conflict.
This novel is set in southern Italy during WWII and centers on a moral conflict between two brothers, one American and one who has given up his American citizenship and is fighting with the Italian army.
This first printing features the distinctive red pictorial cloth binding typical of Knopf’s early 1950s design, with some fading and light spotting to the spine and boards. The interior pages are clean and well-preserved with only mild age toning.
