Wisdom of the West, Bertrand Russell, 1959

Who wrote it: Wisdom of the West is Bertrand Russell's historical survey of Western philosophy in its social and political setting, edited by Paul Foulkes and published by Doubleday in 1959, produced by Rathbone Books of London.

What it's about: Russell traces Western thought from the thinkers before Socrates through Athens, early Christianity, the Enlightenment, and the twentieth century, in his famously clear prose. It was written for general readers as a companion to his History of Western Philosophy.

Special features: Designed by Edward Wright with compositions by John Piper, the book is illustrated in color and black and white on nearly every page.

Condition: Two-tone teal and orange cloth hardcover, no dust jacket. The boards show some spotting and wear. Small bookplate on the front endpaper. Please review all photos carefully, and email me with any questions.

Thanks so much for visiting,
❤️ Jess
